Discover the buzzing nightlife, excellent gastronomy and beautiful tiled buildings of the Portuguese capital. Lisbon is one of Europe's cheapest capitals, so a great destination for a budget weekend break. The compact city centre is easy to explore on foot, but who needs an excuse to jump on one of the romantic vintage trams? Lisbon is at its best in spring (March - May) and autumn (September to October). The weather is warm but not too stifling, so you can wander up and down the city's seven hills easily. Winter in Lisbon is mild and sunny, with temperatures of around 12°C, so it's a good choice if you're looking for a bit of December sunshine. Temperatures soar during the summer and can reach 30°C. Luckily the beach is just a short train journey away, and there are plenty of terraces where you can enjoy a frosty beer overlooking the mighty Tagus River.
